If you’re like me, and find the prospect of a spa holiday being pampered, pummelled and pedicured fills you with dread, you might want to consider this weekend getaway destination in the Czech Republic. The Hotel U Sládka in Chodová Planá offers a spa holiday with a difference. It’s this difference that makes it the Ultimate Holiday Destination.

That difference, ladies, gentlemen and intelligent marine mammals, is beer.
The hotel is next door to the family-owned Chodovar brewery, and for a few pounds you too can enjoy beer baths, beer massages and beer cosmetics. For £12 you can have the disturbing sounding ‘beer wrap’, which I’m assured is not some form of extreme sexual fetish but is actually a health treatment. Presumably a happy finish costs extra, but with beer all around it’s hard to imagine how things could get much happier.
The spa centre is in converted cellars in the brewery, apparently the seven huge victorian style baths are so big you can swim in beer while enjoying a pint poolside. Weekend packages are £80, and I think it’s bound to be popular with students looking for a different kind of getaway. Owner Jiri Plevka is convinced of Beer’s healing properties. I’m certainly convinced, and I don’t think I’m alone on that one.
“We believe in the healing properties of beer and we offer the full range of treatments. We are a fully-fledged beer spa.”
According to Jiri “Beer can treat a range of conditions, particularly skin conditions, and the health centre should appeal to men who are put off by ‘posh’ traditional spas.” Now all I need to do is convince the wife that it’s worth going.
