Tours you don’t see on Expedia

I love the Internet. It’s like a unique library of knowledge, opinion, money making scams and pornography. Usually the opinion, scams and pornography outweigh the knowledge by at least 3 to 1, but occaisionally you come up with gold in the places you least expect it.

Eddie Hutauruk has been running tours in Bali for years, and has a special tour that any backpacker should see. Unless they’re Australian. Or a drug runner, for that matter. Eddie has started a special venture, Schapelle Corby Tours where you too can see, and even feed a convicted Australian drug runner.

Yes, for relatively money you can see Schapelle Corby, who was controversially convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for attempting to smuggle 4.1 Kilos of Cannabis into Bali in her boogie board bag. Personally, I think anyone trying to smuggle over 4 kilos of anything into Bali by carrying it past customs must be seriously stupid, or had it planted. on them, but why wonder when you can go and see her yourself.

You can get your photo taken in front of her cage, actually spend up to 30 minutes in her cage (she’ll be chained up at the time) or spend an entire day with her. For $10AUD you can ring the wake up bell to start her day, and on the all day tour observation chairs are provided along with food and drinks.

For $10AUD you can also feed Schapelle at lunchtime, as quoted from the site:

Watch Schapelle being fed at either lunch or dinner. Optional extra: for just $10 AUD or more you can feed Schapelle yourself – watch her face light up as you throw various pieces of food to her.

Is it surprising that someone’s trying to make money out of Schapelle’s situation? No, not really. If you take even a cursory look you can see that Eddie Hutauruk isn’t the first person to try and make money from her current state. I’ve not been able to confirm if this is actually real, although initial comments from various places on the web indicate it may well be. If anyone else knows if it is, I’d love to know.
