It’s the summer, it means it’s conference time! Whether you’re off to Defcon, Blackhat, or even the anarchic What The Hack camping conference, there’s bound to be fun. Blackhat’s had its share of controversy before, but this time a researcher quit his job to disclose research he conducted around the finer points of Cisco IOS memory management. Whilst it didn’t appear to have anything new in there, it did bring a lot of points together, maybe we’ll finally see Cisco IOS buffer overflow exploits in the wild now, who knows?
Of course, neither Cisco nor ISS were too pleased about the whole matter, and decided to consider their legal options. The presentation has since been pulled from Blackhat, but copies of the presentation material are rumoured to be floating around the Internet.
I was hoping to make WhatTheHack, but sadly couldn’t due to other commitments. Of course the conference I really want to go to is this one, but somehow I can’t see myself getting in.
