A discussion on the DailyDave mailing list got me thinking about how market analysts influence decisions. I mean, what if Gartner took kickbacks, or just made this stuff up?
Of course, there’s always the possibility that someone could put stuff in just to wind people up, such as making IDS the next big thing one quarter, then saying it’s toast the next, only to revive it as IPS in the following quarter then kill it off again … ok, maybe that’s happened to some extent, but hey – that’s the will of the great magnet for you.
