Prank Calls With Doctor Who

Tom Baker, best known as the narrator for Little Britain and the fourth Doctor from Doctor Who has lent his voice (in the form of phonemes) to the BT Text to landline service. What does this mean in plain English? If you send text messages to a BT Landline (the majority of phone lines in the UK are BT) then you can have Tom Baker read the messages out.

Recently this has changed to the voice of the woman who does the standard BT Answer voice, but by prefixing your message with *M#, you can specify that Tom speaks your bidding. Of course this opens up the possibility of all kinds of Baker-related abuse and humour opportunities, although someone’s already taken up the challenge.

Update: There’s another hilarious Tom Baker prank SMS site here

‘Non-invasive’ Neurological Controller

Some crazy insane highly inventive people in Cupertino have come up with a way of using thought control to manipulate computers. Please note, that’s your thoughts controlling the computer, not the other way around. From the company’s site:

NeuroSky, a fabless semiconductor/module company, has developed a non-invasive neural sensor and signal processing technology that converts brainwaves and eye movements into useful electronic signals to communicate with a wide range of electronic devices, consoles, and computers.

It’s official: Mancunians love the cock!

Google said it so it must be true. The launch of Google’s ‘trends’ doesn’t seem to be well covered elsewhere, maybe people are too busy ranting about it becoming evil, or maybe I’m the only person even slightly interested in this. To make things worse, I’m a Mancunian, so google’s telling me something I never knew. Maybe the cock-lovers are all in Collyhurst, that would explain a lot.

Google Trends basically charts the popularity of a set of search terms over time. Kind of like semi-giving into the CIA’s demands whilst ensuring everyone else gets a fair crack at the stats anyhow.

Other things worth trying:

What interesting results have you found?

Amazing Art from Jason Chan

Jason Chan is a Californian artist who creates some amazing artwork. He’s currently at the Academy of Art University in San Fransisco, but is set to graduate this year. Judging by the quality of his art, I can’t see him having any problems finding work!

Jason says that he’s influenced by a fusion of Western styles and Eastern interests, and it shows. Don’t forget to check out some of the great desktop wallpaper and avatars on his site too.

McKinnon Loses Extradition Hearing: Gets Orange Suit and 1-way Ticket to Cuba?

British alleged hacker Gary McKinnon lost his extradition case today and will be spending some time in the hospitality of our American cousins. Amazingly people didn’t see this one coming. Not because he’s guilty of anything, that he broke into systems using passwordless administrator accounts or that he deserves 70 years for it (whilst the admins who f*cked up in the first place get off scot free) but because over the past few years the UK and US governments have been working closer together to stop terrorism, which means sometimes you have to concede a few laws and rights here and there to keep people safe. Well, if you’re the UK, not so much if you’re the US. Continued…
